Cannot install V4R3 on 720??

The minimum OS for model 720 is V4R3.
When we tried to install in, it failed on 2 systems with different size of load source disks (#6607 4GB, #6717 8.5GB, #6817 17GB).

After the study, realize that the system installed RAID controller card #2748 required minimum OS V4R4.

Problem resolved after change the RAID card to #2741 or #2740.

V6R1 New Feature

http://www.i5live.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=96&Itemid=2

i5/OS V6R1, i5/OS Blades and new features

The launch of i5/OS V6R1 is a fact and the completion of the synergy with System p will be the strategy for the platform in 2008 and further. Power Systems will become the new product name for the common hardware that’s based on POWER6 processor technology and will support the three strategic Operating Systems i5/OS, AIX and Linux.

i5/OS Blades As mentioned last year, i5/OS became available on 29 January 2008 for the JS22 BladeCenter, which also has a POWER6 processor. This i5/OS Blade positions itself in the midmarket and will also use the 'user-based model pricing' model, as it is done by the System I models 515 and 525.

To offer i5/OS applications through a BladeCenter, the necessary modifications were executed to the operating system in the area of virtualization, making it unnecessary to install a physical load source. i5/OS will then - through the VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) – have access to the SAN Storage and the network, which also offers the possibility to realize the link to DS4700 and DS4800 Storage Servers.

This new functionality has positive implications for an i5/OS shop in general and it means that either i5/OS can be installed as ‘host partition’ or as a ‘virtual partition’. The establishment of a test partition can then quickly be done and without additional costs on the same hardware.
PowerVM And there's more… Virtualization on POWER is now available as a product, called PowerVM, under V6R1. PowerVM provides all the components necessary to achieve and manage virtual environments on i5/OS, AIX or Linux. There are Express, Standard or Enterprise option packages available, depending on the required functions and/or the POWER processor version.

Accordingly there is an extension of the 'Shared Processor Pools' functionalities. It will be possible on POWER6 processors to group and isolate micro-partitions in one pool (previously this was only possible with full processors), both on release V6R1 and V5R4. This will undoubtedly benefit in a more favorable pricing in the processor-based software license contracts.

Performance optimization To meet the high demands of modern development products like Java and WebSphere, a lot of attention was paid to performance optimization in the development of this new release. The new 64-bit JVM has also ensured that substantial improvements are noted and excellent benchmarks are laid down, not only for POWER6 processors but also for Power5 +.

Web Query Web Query is re-examined and adjusted to the needs of customers, especially in the area of pricing. With the initial announcement of this product, the user-based pricing model was used, without any distinction for the role of the user. In other words, every user was registered and was accounted in the calculation on the number of licenses.
From now on, the customer can choose between Authors (creators) and Run Time Users (end users) – the latter will be covered by a group license and not by individual user.
High Availability Solution Manager Keeping the applications and data high available is more than ever a primary need for business leaders. So on this point there also was intense reflection on how such an implementation can be simplified for the IT staff.

The new product HASM (IBM High Availability Solution Manager), that was given a web-based interface, should meet this demand. HASM delivers the infrastructure, complemented by management functions to support hardware based solutions. It is oriented on HA/DR solutions as Switchable iASP, XSM (Cross Site Mirroring), and DS8000 SAN copy services. For the connection with DS8000, and to ensure a performance that even surpasses the comparison with internal storage, a new 4Gbit Fiber Channel dual port adapter is available at POWER6, albeit only to install with V6R1.

In the domain of IBM Logical Replication, DataMirror iCluster can bring a solution for customers who are looking for an IBM HA/DR software product
.
WebSphere Development Studio For developers it became necessary to redeploy and complete certain products, which led to a repackaging of WDS (WebSphere Development Studio) and WDSc (WebSphere Development Studio Client). In WDS we find a merge of compilers like ILE Compilers, Heritage Compilers and ADTS. In WDSc solutions like Rational Tools, Webfacing and HATS are grouped.

IBM Systems Director Navigator for i5/OS With V6R1 iSeries Navigator is also replaced by a web-based product that has the same interface as IBM Systems Director. This product will have the following name: IBM Systems Director for i5/OS Navigator. This product will automatically be installed with i5/OS.

They also paid attention to security. Although i5/OS earns its reputation as the most secure environment in the market, there are still a significant number of options available. From now on data encryption is available on the level of BRMS back-up and ASP (read disk encryption), and network hacking will even better be anticipated.

Hardware announcements It is clear that the new V6R1 release is the highlight for the first announcement of this year. Yet there are also some hardware announcements in the package. The POWER 570 model, from a dual CEC (more than 4 processors), offers the option to have the Service Processor to be redundant, so a defect in this component does not lead to a system problem. Hot plug features for HSL loop or 12X loop then help to avoid downtimes during the execution of I/O enhancements.
